A Sliver of Silverlight on ActiveTuts

I’ve got a couple of little Silverlight tutorials up on the ActiveTuts site;

image

for active followers of this blog and for folks that are heavily into Silverlight they’re possibly a bit on the introductory-end of the spectrum and I certainly don’t claim that they’re comprehensive in any way, shape or form – just me making some use of Silverlight 4, the Bing Maps control, Visual Studio 2010 and a little bit of Expression Blend 4 to put something together.

I’m hoping to revisit with more explanation around some of the things that drop out of that tutorial if enough folks show interest in Silverlight on a site that’s about RIA but which is primarily (or entirely Smile) about Flash, ActionScript and Flex up until now so I’m very pleased to be able to put a little tiny sliver of Silverlight amongst those techs.

I don't know how it works for other people, but for me, the video was a few seconds ahead of the sound.  So it wasn't the best experience to watch.

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know - I know the audio/video were sync'd here so I'll see if something's happened to them in the meantime - I'll watch it myself and ask the ActiveTuts guys.

Video formats - increasingly the bane of my life :-)

Mike.

Kudos Mike for making the SL splash on the Flash site.  It's about time those folks see what SL can do...although I suspect they secretly stay up nights checking out SL sites with cold sweats.  Too bad on the video/audio sync issue converting to their format.

Hi Mr Taulty,

really nice tutorial you have there, i really love it...

i'm a student and i have problem following this tutorial, that when entering URL for getting the key (since i think the web service won't service the app if the URL don't match)

which URL should i enter if i want to debug the application on local debugger as is in the tutorial?

i've tried "http://localhost" , "localhost/.../" for getting the right key for my application, none of those works (so the map can calculate route, displaying Map Polyline, and so on)

please help me...
